A new reissue model has been created that faithfully recreates the "Silver Arrow" watch that Longines released in the 1950s. Named after a famous car that captivated the motorsports world at the time, the design was born during a heady era when people were fascinated by racing cars and supersonic passenger aircraft.

A design born more than half a century ago

　Longines has announced a new model for 2021 that faithfully recreates the Silver Arrow, a heritage model born in the 1950s. While Longines has produced numerous reproduction models, this latest model is particularly faithful to the original, with only three hands displaying the hours, minutes, and seconds on the dial.

　The inspiration for the original model was the vibrant, futuristic backdrop of the 1950s, a time when many people were obsessed with racing cars and supersonic passenger planes, and new technologies were being born one after another, creating a positive atmosphere.

　The original Silver Arrow model, born in 56, incorporated a classic yet avant-garde design, and an internal competition was held to decide on its name. Over 450 entries were submitted, and the name was based on one of the selected ideas. The Silver Arrow name comes from one of the famous cars that captivated the motorsports industry at the time.

　At the time, each Longines collection was given an emblem to represent the model, and the Silver Arrows had a supersonic airliner motif. The use of a symbol of innovation as the emblem was a tribute to the world of aviation and its pioneers, as well as a demonstration of the innovative spirit that Longines values.

Amazing reproducibility

　This is not the first time that Longines has produced a reissue of the Silver Arrow. The first reissue, released in 2009, featured a date display, which was not present on the original model, for practical reasons, and the word "Automatic" was written below the brand logo. However, the "new" Silver Arrow released this time has eliminated the date display and date window in order to faithfully reproduce the original, achieving the utmost in accuracy.

　The modest 38.5mm diameter, rare among current men's models, also retains a strong sense of the era. The clean silver-colored opaline dial, like the original, features multi-step striped indexes and sword-shaped hands, both of which are inconspicuous in bright light but are coated with Super-LumiNova. The box-shaped crystal is made of highly durable sapphire crystal, with a multi-layer anti-reflective coating on its surface for improved visibility.
