Seiko's first 1000m diver's watch celebrates its 35th anniversary with a limited edition of 1200 pieces

To commemorate the 35th anniversary of the release of the company's first 1000m saturation diving watch in 1986, Seiko has announced a limited edition model that enhances the perfection of the diver's watch. Only 1200 units will be produced worldwide, and sales will begin on July 9, 2021.

The evolved 1000m diver

　To commemorate 35 years since the birth of the 1000m water-resistant diver's watch, which Seiko created in 1986, an anniversary model will be released, limited to 1200 pieces worldwide. By generously incorporating the technology and know-how cultivated over its long history, the watch has been further refined as a professional tool.

　Since releasing the first domestically produced diver's watch in 1965, Seiko has continued to develop timepieces that have become trusted tools for many divers and adventurers. The original model for this piece, the company's first quartz diver for 1000m saturation diving, released in 86, was a groundbreaking development.

　The latest 1000m Diver's model, released this time, also retains Seiko's unique outer case protector structure. Like the original, it features a one-piece titanium case with a water resistance of 1000m, combined with a 49.4mm diameter zirconia ceramic protector.

　A new feature exclusive to the latest model has also been added. To prevent forgetting to close the screw-down crown, the base of the crown is now painted yellow, an emergency color, making it easier to visually confirm that it is locked in place. Metallic yellow is also used for the fixing screws on the outer case protector, as well as the strap buckle and strap keeper, making it easy to instantly check that the watch is properly positioned before diving.

　The dial, with a blue-to-black gradation from 12 o'clock to 6 o'clock, represents a diver diving into the dark, mysterious ocean, with the light gradually decreasing as he goes deeper. The circular indexes and thick hour and minute hands are coated with luminous paint, ensuring high visibility even in dark places.

　This model is equipped with the quartz caliber 7C46, a highly durable movement designed specifically for divers' watches, which generates high torque to rotate the thick hands.
