June 8th marks the United Nations World Oceans Day, and we're reminded of the importance of our oceans! Blancpain is the presenting partner

Blancpain has announced its participation as a Presenting Partner of the 2021 United Nations World Oceans Day, organized by the United Nations Division on Maritime Affairs and the Law of the Sea (DOALOS) and supported by Oceanic Global, and will support an ocean-themed photo competition and concert to commemorate the day.

　Indigenous participation is an important theme for Blancpain. This element underpins several recent ocean exploration and conservation projects as part of the Blancpain Ocean Commitment. In parallel with these activities, Blancpain also seeks to raise public awareness of the ocean's beauty, particularly through underwater photography. During World Oceans Day 2013, the brand hosted an underwater photography exhibition, "Oceans," at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. It showcased underwater images from the "Edition Fifty Fathoms" photo book series, as well as those taken during the "Primitive Seas" and "Gombessa" projects, of which Blancpain was a founding partner. Following the success of this event, the United Nations decided the following year to launch an underwater photography competition to commemorate World Oceans Day. Since 2015, Blancpain has consistently supported this initiative.

The theme for 2021 is "The Ocean: Life and Livelihoods."

　The United Nations observes World Oceans Day each year on June 8th with an annual event coordinated by the UN Division for Maritime and Law of the Sea (Legal Division) in collaboration with Oceanic Global. This comprehensive event celebrates the importance of the oceans and provides an opportunity to deepen understanding of how we interact with them in a sustainable manner. The theme for 2021 is "The Ocean: Life and Livelihoods." This World Oceans Day theme highlights the wonders of the oceans and how they are the source of life that nourishes humanity and other living things on Earth.

　The event will feature thought leaders, celebrities, corporate partners, community voices, entrepreneurs, and cross-industry experts speaking about the biodiversity and economic opportunities the ocean supports. Hear from people who depend on the ocean every day for their livelihoods and explore the vastness of life below the surface, the latest scientific discoveries, and how all living things are interconnected. Additionally, this is an opportunity to learn about humanity's dependence on marine resources, how the ocean is changing, and what can be done to build a sustainable and inclusive life for the ocean and all those who depend on it for prosperity.

Blancpain Ocean Commitment (BOC)

　Blancpain's connection with the sea dates back to 1953, when the brand launched its first modern diver's watch, the Fifty Fathoms. This timepiece embodied Blancpain's passion for the underwater world, providing divers with a reliable timekeeping device for use underwater, helping to open up the oceans to the public.
Ocean exploration and conservation have been at the heart of Blancpain ever since. Building on the nearly 70-year legacy of the Fifty Fathoms, Blancpain has cultivated close ties with the explorers, photographers, marine scientists and environmental advocates who care for this precious resource. These relationships have led to the brand's decision to support important ocean-related activities and initiatives. Blancpain's various passion projects have produced tangible results, notably the expansion of marine protected areas around the world, which has now reached more than 400 million square kilometers.
