Ulysse Nardin Launches Diver Lemon Shark for World Oceans Day

Ulysse Nardin has announced a new model for marine conservation, the Diver Lemon Shark, to coincide with World Oceans Day on June 8th. This model, themed around the lemon shark, honors experts, divers, and non-profit organizations, and will be released in a limited edition of 300 pieces worldwide.

A day to think about the importance of the ocean

　As part of its commitment to protecting the oceans, Ulysse Nardin has unveiled a new shark-themed watch to mark World Oceans Day, in line with the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be achieved by 2030.

　It is noteworthy that Ulysse Nardin is not just a watchmaker, but is one of the early adopters of this field, which has been gaining attention from various brands in recent years. In order to reduce marine pollution as much as possible, the brand not only uses materials extracted from the ocean in its watch parts, but also supports non-profit organizations engaged in environmental protection, calling on its customers to take an interest in the threatened global environment.

　Global environmental problems have only worsened in recent years, and are becoming increasingly diverse, including water pollution from industrial wastewater and rising sea temperatures and sea levels due to increased carbon dioxide. This call for people to take an interest in the ocean, which has a deep connection with all living things, and to take responsibility for solving these problems.

　The new model announced this time is a limited edition model focusing on sharks, which are the symbol of Ulysse Nardin. To commemorate the announcement on this special international day, Ulysse Nardin has launched a new project called the FIU Media Aquarius Program in collaboration with two organizations that the company has long supported: OCEARCH, a global shark research group specializing in marine life research and ocean conservation, and the Florida International University (FIU) Environmental Research Institute.

　This is a special program to train divers specializing in marine research. Aquarius, the world's only underwater research and education facility, is a kind of undersea laboratory located about 60 feet below the surface in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary in the United States. Here, divers and experts study and conserve marine ecosystems.

　Ulysse Nardin and O'Search have been working together since June 2020, with the shared goal of protecting sharks. O'Search founder Chris Fisher said, "We need to accelerate the pace of scientific discovery if we are to have any chance of leaving our oceans healthy for our grandchildren's generations."

　Fred Boyle, a member of Ulysses, a partnership with Ulysse Nardin, mainly assists in tagging to track reef sharks. As a diver and photographer, he uses his experience and knowledge to dive alongside researchers and actively engage in courageous, physical endeavors.

　He is wearing the "Diver Lemon Shark," a new variation of the Diver 42mm collection, with a black DLC-coated case and bright yellow accents.

　The "Lemon Shark" in the model's name is a species of reef shark that inhabits the Indian and Pacific Oceans, and is named after its bright yellow skin. The vibrant yellow color of the inside of the bezel, the second hand, and the minute track on the dial is, needless to say, a homage to the lemon shark. The case back features three lemon sharks with a realistic texture. The strap is an "R Strap" made from recycled fishing nets floating on the surface of the ocean, making this a watch that evokes a connection to the sea in every detail.
