Bvlgari Il Cioccolato launches new chocolate with a focus on sustainability

Bulgari's chocolate shop, Il Cioccolato, has announced new chocolates aimed at tackling food waste and preserving traditional crafts. The three types of chocolates, made with ingredients sourced in Japan, will be sold in special boxes made from handmade washi paper from Saga Prefecture. Sales are scheduled to begin on June 17th.

A small box filled with many messages

　Bvlgari Il Cioccolato has demonstrated its proactive approach to CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) with a box of chocolates. The newly announced "Chocolate Gems for Sustainability" takes into consideration the issues of food waste, the preservation of traditional crafts, and ethical consumption.

　These activities were launched with the cooperation of FOOD LOSS BANK, which actively works to reduce food waste and make effective use of food waste ingredients. They use ingredients that are carefully selected to "eliminate waste in the food industry," protect the "value of traditional crafts," and even improve the lives of producers. In all manufacturing, it is important to respect and raise awareness of all life on Earth.

A special box of handmade Japanese paper

　The boxes for the new chocolates are made using Nao Washi paper, a Saga prefecture crafted over 300 years ago. Until the early Showa period, washi paper production flourished in this region, with over 100 workshops lining the streets, but today only one remains: Hizen Washi Workshop. Nao Washi is made using koji trees harvested from the surrounding area, and is characterized by thicker and stronger fibers than regular washi paper made from kozo (paper mulberry).

　Il Cioccolato's boxes are made with a unique texture, using a mixture of unshipped hydrangea flowers that do not meet the specifications, rape blossoms harvested around the workshop, and safflower used in dyeing.It is a tasteful box created using rare traditional craftsmanship that still exists today.
