Gucci "Grip Gold" and "Grip Sapphire" now feature a new mechanical jumping hour movement

Gucci has unveiled two unique Jumping Hours watches, the Grip Gold and Grip Sapphire, as part of its High Watchmaking collection, which will be launched in 2021 to mark the brand's 100th anniversary.

　Gucci's 2019 Grip watch, which drew attention for its design that skillfully combined the atmosphere of various eras, such as the skateboarder style of the 1970s and the interlocking G motif reminiscent of 1960s Art Deco design, was powered by a quartz movement. This year's new model has been transformed into a luxury model equipped with a mechanical movement, a hard stone dial, and baguette diamonds.

　The Grip Gold collection is available in four precious models, each of which combines exquisite craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology to create a groundbreaking design. Three of the models feature rare natural stones on the dial.

　The 18K white gold model features a bluish-black falcon's eye, while the two 18K yellow gold models feature green malachite and tiger's eye, giving the natural stone dials a unique look.

　These natural stones are cut precisely and skillfully by skilled jewelers while maintaining their strength. The lines, grain and colour are then perfectly balanced to give each watch a sophisticated character. Each dial is paired with an alligator strap in a colour that matches the natural stone tone.

　The fourth "Grip Gold" design features an 18K yellow gold case with a sporty brushed 18K gold face, with the bezel and lugs set with baguette-cut diamonds. The brushed gold face is subtly engraved with the Gucci logo. The straight lines of the 18K gold bracelet link are reminiscent of skateboard grip tape, which is the inspiration for the Grip.

Grip Sapphire

　The Grip Sapphire features a captivating design with a sapphire crystal case and an eye-catching jumping hour movement. Available in four transparent colors: clear, blue, smoky pink, and green, the windows displaying the hours and minutes on the dial are highlighted with contrasting colors. The combination of retro digital style and precious materials crafted with advanced processing techniques, and the fusion of traditional craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology, has resulted in an extremely modern watch.

　Sapphire crystal is extremely hard and durable, but this is precisely why it is subjected to such enormous forces and stresses during processing, making the manufacture of watch cases extremely risky. As with any gemstone, cutting sapphire crystal to the exact size required can only be carried out by artisans with specialized skills and a thorough understanding of the material's characteristics, which mean it will shatter if not handled with the utmost care.

　This highly technically advanced sapphire crystal case brings a whole new dimension to the original Grip design. The beautiful contrast of the colored glass on the hour and minute displays is a playful detail that is typical of Gucci. The transparent rubber strap, in the same color as the case, is embossed with an Interlocking G motif and features a stainless steel Ardión buckle, highlighting the Grip's contemporary character.
