Audemars Piguet has added five new references to its Royal Oak Frosted Gold Double Balance Wheel Openworked series: three 41mm and two 37mm models, all featuring multicolored gem-set rainbow bezels.

Sparkling "diamond dust" effect

　The 37mm and 41mm white, pink, or yellow gold cases and bracelets are bathed in the sparkle of Frosted Gold. This special finishing process, realized in partnership with Carolina Bucci in 2016 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the ladies' Royal Oak, involves creating minute indentations on the gold surface with a diamond-tipped tool, creating a sparkling effect reminiscent of "diamond dust." Echoing the chamfered angles of the polished bezel, this sparkle, combined with the Royal Oak's unique shape and design codes, creates a distinctive look that is instantly recognizable from afar.

The Royal Oak Frosted Gold Double Balance Wheel Openworked / 41mm model is the first to feature a rainbow-colored bezel. The Frosted Gold model now joins the collection in yellow gold and pink gold versions. Two new 37mm 18K pink gold and yellow gold versions have also been added. These smaller sizes complement the white gold version released in 2019. Both models feature a matching pink or yellow gold openworked movement, which provides a sharp contrast with the black-plated openworked barrel supporting the mainspring at 1 o'clock.

　The new 41mm yellow, pink, and white Frosted Gold case and bracelet provide a bold contrast with the openworked movement's slate gray NAC-coated bridges and the dial's black inner bezel. The double balance wheel at 8 o'clock is available in yellow gold, pink gold, or rhodium to match the case color. The hour markers and Royal Oak hands, which are coated with luminescent material, are also in yellow, pink, and white gold.

The openworked bridges allow portions of the gear train to be seen from both the dial side and the caseback. A specialty of Audemars Piguet since the 1930s, openworking is an art form that seeks the optimum balance between form and function. Skilled experts first sketched out the final design and then worked backwards to design the movement. Cutting too little or the wrong parts of the openwork would be ineffective, while cutting too much could affect the movement's functionality. Solving this puzzle requires watchmaking expertise, a deep knowledge of materials, and finesse in finishing.

Audemars Piguet's new bezel is set with 12 multicolored gemstones: ruby, tsavorite, emerald, topaz, tanzanite, amethyst, and several colored sapphires. The 32 baguette-cut gemstones (1.91 carats) create a rainbow of colors, carefully selected to create a harmonious juxtaposition of soft and gradual shades. The rainbow colors, ranging from red to orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple, dynamically adorn the octagonal bezel.

Caliber 3132 and its double balance wheel mechanism. This patented innovation, released in 2016, enhances the watch's precision and reliability. The coaxial assembly of two balance wheels (balances) and two hairsprings ensures perfectly synchronized oscillations. Visible from both sides of the case, the double balance wheels offer a rare glimpse into the beating heart of the watch.
