Vacheron Constantin hosts watch exhibition focusing on women's watches

Vacheron Constantin will hold an exhibition of women's watches that it has been producing for nearly two centuries. The exhibition will travel to four boutiques in Japan, in Tokyo and Osaka, offering a rare opportunity to see a selection of beautiful ladies' watches.

Vacheron Constantin and Women's Watches

　Every year, Vacheron Constantin holds an exhibition of the vast number of archive pieces it has produced to date, which rotates between four boutiques across Japan: Ginza and Shinjuku Isetan in Tokyo, and Daimaru Shinsaibashi and Hankyu Umeda in Osaka.

　The theme of this exhibition is women's watches. Women have had a deep interest in watchmaking since the relatively early days of wristwatches. As can be seen from the design and functions they incorporate, many of them were intended to be worn as jewelry to enhance one's own appearance. The history of watches made for women dates back to 1815. The cases are decorated with motifs of garnet flowers and animals and plants, showing that the Maison was focusing on the production of women's watches from an early stage.

　As the times change, a wide variety of designs are born, and watches change in line with fashion trends and women's social status. Just like haute couture that fits perfectly, these women's watches inspire dreams and passion.

Carefully selected from our vast heritage collection

　This exhibition brings together a selection of timepieces created by Vacheron Constantin over the course of nearly two centuries, carefully selected from the brand's privately preserved Heritage Collection, and presented according to the occasions in which they were worn.

　Just like a tailor who designs clothes for special events, models were selected to suit the fashion worn by Vacheron Constantin for each occasion. Here we introduce some of the models on display from the lineup divided into occasions such as evening parties, tea time, lunchtime, and cocktail parties.

Gala Dinner (Evening Party)

　These timepieces, which stood out at evening parties, often featured delicate gemstone setting techniques. Platinum and gold straps made wristwatches comfortable to wear, similar to bracelets. During the Art Deco era, oval, rectangular, and square shapes were born.

Afternoon Tea Time

　Vacheron Constantin has been meeting the demand for complicated watches for women since the early days, and pocket watches equipped with quarter repeaters were in high demand among wealthy customers from the early 19th century. The function was used to tell the time at night when it was difficult to see the time, but it was also effective as a conversation starter among wealthy owners.

Lunch time

　In the 1920s, when Art Nouveau, with its organic designs using curves, gave way to Art Deco, with its geometric motifs, watch designs also changed. At the time, it was considered extremely rude to check the time during a refined meal, which was one of the reasons why secret watches with hidden dials became popular.
