Panerai unveils its first two perpetual calendars with new movements

One of the most challenging complications in the world of watchmaking, the perpetual calendar has been able to automatically recognize months with fewer than 31 days and leap years, and to indicate the date for many years to come. Panerai's first perpetual calendars are the Luminor Perpetual Calendar Goldtech™ and the Luminor Perpetual Calendar Platinumtech™, both of which are boutique exclusives. Breaking unprecedented ground for the brand, the new in-house automatic movement, P.4100, was developed by Panerai's Laboratorio di IDée research and development department and is produced at the Panerai Manufacture in Neuchâtel.

The day of the week, date, month and year can be intuitively adjusted using the crown without the need for tools or correctors, without restrictions such as the end of the month or midnight. The hour, minute and GMT hands are located in the center, with a small second, 24-hour subdial and day/night indicator at the 9 o'clock position, and a date and day of the week display at the 3 o'clock position.

The P.4100 movement beats at 4 Hz and has two barrels providing a power reserve of up to three days. An off-center micro-rotor allows the movement to remain fully functional in a thickness of just 7 mm.

Automatic (cal. P.4100). 55 jewels. 28800 vph. Power reserve approximately 3 days. Satin Goldtech™ (diameter 44mm). Water resistant to 50m. 572 million yen (tax included). Boutique exclusive.

The dial displays minutes, hours, day, date, GMT 24-hour indicator, and seconds. It is simple and minimalist to maintain the high legibility characteristic of Panerai design. Only the presence of the words "Carendario Perpetuo," Italian for "perpetual calendar," reveals the true extent of its complexity.

The sapphire case back allows you to see the remaining power reserve, as well as the important indicators of the perpetual calendar: month, year, leap year.
