Omi Watchmaking School in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture will hold an open campus on October 2nd and 3rd.

Omi Watchmaking School (official name: Omi Watch, Glasses and Jewelry College) in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture will hold an autumn open campus on Saturday, October 2nd and Sunday, October 3rd, 2021. On the day, there will be a program where you can experience classes at the school.

Open Campus Overview

　On the day of the open campus, you will receive an explanation about the school and be able to experience some of the tasks that will be carried out in class (as a countermeasure against COVID-19 infection, registration is limited to three groups per session).

Main experience contents

Watch battery replacement
An experience to learn precautions and things to check when changing batteries

Brass cutting on a lathe
Experience cutting brass round material using a lathe (machine tool)

Coloring the clock hands
The blue coloring used on watch hands and screws is not plating but an oxide film that forms when heated in air. Experience how the color changes with heating temperature.

Wearing a mask is mandatory on the day. Also, please refrain from attending if you have had a fever in the past two weeks or may have had close contact with an infected person.

　Omi Watch School is a vocational school that trains watch technicians. Students can learn techniques for making modern watches from Japan and abroad, as well as wall and table clocks, antique clocks, quartz clocks, and parts. Depending on the department, students may also be able to learn eyeglass and jewelry techniques. The school is currently accepting students for admission in 2022, and visitors can visit at any time by making a reservation, even outside of the open campus. Open campus events are also scheduled to be held in the winter.
