Grand Seiko limited edition model featuring the fantastical winter scenery of Shinshu, "Shizuriyuki" (hanging snow), on the dial

Grand Seiko will be releasing a model equipped with a Spring Drive movement, with a design theme inspired by the fantastic winter scenery of "shizuriyuki" (hanging snow), found in Shinshu, at Grand Seiko boutiques from Saturday, November 6th. Limited to just 60 pieces worldwide, the watch will be available at Grand Seiko Salons from Friday, January 14th, 2022.

Grand Seiko Elegance Collection Limited Edition Model (SBGY008)

　The 18K pink gold case is meticulously set with 53 diamonds by skilled artisans at Shinshu Toki no Takumi Kobo. The diamonds are arranged so that they gradually become smaller from the center of the case to the tips of the lugs, and by aligning the diamond tips, they create a beautiful, flowing sparkle. The antique-style crocodile strap, featuring a brown base with black recesses, is hand-stitched by artisans. This special edition also comes with a satin-style strap that further enhances the world of "Taruyuki."

What is Spring Drive?

　Seiko's unique drive mechanism uses the unwinding power of a mainspring as its power source, just like a mechanical watch, while accurately controlling precision using an IC and quartz oscillator. It requires no battery, provides stable timekeeping accuracy that is virtually unaffected by external factors such as temperature changes, shocks, and vibrations, and features a smooth sweeping second hand. This model is equipped with the Spring Drive movement, caliber 9R31, manufactured by Shinshu Toki no Takumi Kobo, which achieves a 72-hour power reserve thanks to a dual spring barrel mechanism using two power springs in a single barrel.
