As a tribute to the colorful pendants Van Cleef & Arpels created in the 1970s, the brand has reinterpreted the 12 zodiac signs with a set of 12 long necklaces, each with a motif on both sides, resembling a true 3D painting.

Zodiac Long Necklace Piscium (Pisces)

Focus on the 3D paintings featuring the 12 constellations

Van Cleef & Arpels has announced two jewelry sets that reinterpret the 12 Western zodiac signs, a motif that the brand has used in the past.

Zodiac Long Necklace Leonis (Leo)
Leo is said to represent the element of fire, passion, drive, and courage. This piece is crafted from rose gold and red jasper. 18K rose gold and jasper. Price: 2,785,200 yen (tax included).

The first is a long necklace that pays tribute to the colorful pendants created in the 1970s. Using rose gold in a three-dimensional way, the foreground on the front side features animals and figures symbolizing the 12 zodiac signs, like a three-dimensional painting, while the background features stylized representations of the elements fire, air, water, and earth. The reverse side, using the same technique, features the symbols and names of the zodiac signs, along with the corresponding zodiac periods, in gold.

What makes this piece unique is the use of a wide variety of stones, giving each piece a unique look using minerals not often seen in regular jewelry. For example, if we focus on the constellations that belong to the water element, Cancer uses blue quartz, reminiscent of the deep sea, Pisces uses sodalite, which resembles tide foam and the light on the surface of the water, and Scorpio uses turquoise, which represents the clear waters of exotic beaches, each expressing the world of the sea.

Zodiac Medal Sagittarius
The obverse (left) features an embossed centaur drawing its iconic bow. This design is taken from the company's 1992 collection. The reverse (right) features an arrow symbol and the corresponding period of Sagittarius. 18K yellow gold. Price: 304,700 yen (tax included).

The second jewelry set is a yellow gold medallion themed on the 12 zodiac signs. This is a modern interpretation of the gold medallions that have been made since the 1950s with a motif of the 12 zodiac signs, following the tradition of lucky charms that the Maison has produced since its founding.

This time, the size of these medals has been revised to allow them to be worn at all times and become personal jewelry deeply engraved with each individual's story. While the intricate relief engraving emphasizes the symbolism of the constellation motif, they have been produced in a new diameter of 21mm, making them more accessible to the wearer.
