Teruhisa Kitahara selected as the winner of Cuervo y Sobrinos' Latino Japan 2021

Muraki Co., Ltd. held the Latino Japan 2021 award ceremony at the Cuban Embassy on November 18, 2021. This year's winner was Teruhisa Kitahara, director of the Yokohama Tin Toy Museum, who is known as an appraiser on TV Tokyo's "Kaiun! Nandemo Kanteidan," and was presented with the Latino Japan Award.

　Cuervo y Sobrinos has decided to present the 2021 Latino Japan Award to Mr. Kitahara in honour of his passionate efforts to collect and protect antique toys that would otherwise fall into disuse and be discarded, even back when he was not yet the household name he is today.

　The watch presented to commemorate this award was the "Velo Chronograph" with GMT function, part of the "Vuelo" series, which means "flight" in Spanish. It is sporty yet elegant, incorporating the Latin spirit. The small seconds and minute counters are arranged on the first row, the 24-hour index on the second row, and the minutes and seconds on the third row. The word "Vuelo" is engraved on the side, and a tachymeter scale is engraved on the bezel.

What is the Latino Japan Award?

　Founded in Havana in 1882, Cuervo y Sobrinos is proud of its Latino culture and heritage, which is the brand's identity. Since 2003, the brand has presented the Latino International Award to honor Latinos who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in their respective fields (previous recipients include Andy Garcia, Antonio Banderas, and others).

　In Japan, the Latino Japan Award has been given to individuals who have been active in Japan with a passionate heart befitting a Latino since 2007, the 125th anniversary of the founding of Cuervo y Sobrinos. Past recipients include professional golfer Shingo Katayama, actors Junichi Ishida and Hideaki Ito, baseball player Masahiro Tanaka, and kabuki actor Koshiro Matsumoto. Last year, the award was given to manga artist Takehiko Inoue, known for works such as Slum Dunk and Vakabond.
