Chopard launches new variations of the innovative and sophisticated Alpine Eagle XL Chrono

Chopard has added a new chronograph to its Alpine Eagle collection, this timepiece with a 44mm case diameter, crafted from 18K ethical gold and ceramized titanium. Its sporty design is complemented by the elegant look of its materials.

A testament to Chopard's expertise and ingenuity

　Since the collection's inception, the Alpine Eagle has been a symbol of meticulously crafted aesthetics that go beyond technical excellence. On the right side, the gold pushers that control the chronograph function are positioned on either side to protect the crown, but this understated design does not disrupt the harmony of form and symmetry that characterizes the collection.

　Louis Henry Sullivan, an American architect and one of the leading figures of the Chicago School, once said, "Form ever follows function," a phrase that is used as a motto among modernists such as those of the Bauhaus. The new Alpine Eagle XL Chrono also carries on this concept.

　The concept of harmony in this piece is also reflected within the pitch-black dial. Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, co-president of Chopard and creator of the collection, was inspired by the flora and fauna of the Alps, and proposed a black color scheme for this model that evokes the deep darkness of mountain nights. The dial evokes the disturbed ecology of animals, with the intention of restoring to them the pitch-black nights lost to human activity and urbanization.

　Like all models in the collection, the dial features a pattern reminiscent of an eagle's iris, while the eagle-wing seconds hand stands out against a highly legible display featuring rhythmic three-dimensional counters.

A first attempt at combining 18K ethical gold and ceramized titanium

　The 18K rose gold used in the manufacture of the cases is sourced from ethical supply chains, in line with Chopard's responsible business commitments, which have been applied to all of the Maison's watch and jewelry production since July 2018.

　The use of ceramized titanium, meanwhile, embodies the brand's spirit of constant innovation. This lightweight and durable metal is obtained through an oxidation process of titanium using electroplasma technology. This gives the material a hardness of 1000 Vickers and impact and scratch resistance comparable to that of ceramic. Developed in the aerospace and automotive industries, this material comes in an anthracite grey color that will not fade over time, lending the entire model a sporty and modern appeal.

Three patents awarded to the high-precision chronograph movement

　The Chopard 03.05-C caliber, equipped with a 22K rose gold rotor, offers a 60-hour power reserve and ensures precise regulation and optimal operation of the chronograph functions. This column-wheel caliber is the culmination of several technical innovations from the LUC 03.03-L caliber developed by Chopard for the LUC Chrono One, earning the brand three patents. First introduced in 2006, this chronograph movement, featuring a column wheel, vertical clutch, flyback function, small-seconds reset function, and highly precise jumping minute counter, remains one of the world's most innovative calibers.

　In 2022, the LUC collection will celebrate its 25th anniversary. In this commemorative year, Chopard wishes to reiterate the important role of the Manufacture in innovation and watchmaking integrity. With the Chopard 03.05-C, which can be produced in limited quantities at the factory, this cutting-edge technology will become part of the Alpine Eagle collection.
