Arnold & Son releases a platinum case model of the Luna Magna

Arnold & Son has unveiled a platinum-cased version of its Luna Magna, showcasing the grandeur of the sky in deep aventurine. The mother-of-pearl dial reflects the play of light as it transforms into a lunar orb crafted from blue aventurine and grey marble.

A timepiece whose appearance changes with the light

　The newly announced Luna Magna Platinum is the latest model in the Luna Magna collection, which exudes Arnold & Son's poetic style.

　Luna Magna features the largest and most spectacular three-dimensional moon phase display ever incorporated into a wristwatch: its polished platinum 950 case features white mother-of-pearl hour and minute subdials set in a satin-brushed ring, revealing each new lunar cycle in ever-changing reflected light.

　The way the three-dimensional moon fits so naturally into the case is a marvel to behold, and the smooth, understated shine and weight of the platinum give it a majestic look. The metallic crystal set in aventurine breathes life into the dial with its brilliance.

　The moon, 12mm in diameter, is half grey marble and half aventurine, reflecting the dual nature of the moon. The play of light, or chiaroscuro (Italian for light and dark), guided by the unique moon phase complication, enlivens the Luna Magna Platinum, creating a piece in constant flux.

　François Pichet, sales manager at Arnold & Son, said of Arnold & Son watchmaking:

"By maintaining symmetry in the design, showing the mechanism inside, making the dial three-dimensional, and using a skeleton, I can create a piece of 'mechanical poetry.'"

Unique and elegant dial and exceptional design

　The dial features the Arnold & Son logo and 12 Roman numerals on a graduated dial that displays the hours and minutes. The subtle elegance of the Luna Magna Platinum, which matches the elegant complication, is perhaps due in part to the brilliance of the mother-of-pearl.

　The Luna Magna boasts a beautiful and distinctive design, but it also boasts a highly functional movement. It is equipped with the caliber A&S1021, developed and manufactured by Arnold & Son. This new manual-winding movement is designed around the lunar orb and features a power reserve of approximately 90 hours and a regulator operating at 21,600 vph. The case back also features a secondary display for adjusting the moon phase.

　One of Arnold & Son's true strengths in watchmaking is that they can develop dedicated movements for each model in-house, allowing them to create designs that are ``design-first'' without being restricted by the movement's design, such as diameter, thickness, or gear train arrangement.

　However, the high precision of this magnificent lunar timepiece makes it clear that design is not the only priority. In fact, the lunar cycle is 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes, and 2.8 seconds. Arnold & Son has successfully recreated the movement's accurate reading of the celestial bodies so that it deviates by just one day every 122 years. The Luna Magna Platinum's moon phase function can be easily adjusted via the crown, making it a practical feature only possible thanks to Arnold & Son's complete mastery of the watchmaking process.
