Edox Announces New Reissue of Vintage Skydiver Watch

Edox has announced two Skydiver Automatic Limited Edition models as the latest additions to its Skydiver collection, a collection of military watch reproductions. Limited to just 600 pieces worldwide, these watches faithfully reproduce the 1969 model using the latest technology while also improving its specifications.

Reproducing archive models with modern technology

　Founded in 1884, Edox is a company with a long history and is still actively exploring its heritage. The Edox team continued to dig through the remaining archives and discovered that the Skydiver's origins date back to the 1960s.

　The Skydiver Collection, which is gaining attention within Edox, was reissued in 2019. The relaunch was triggered by a design drawing discovered in the Edox factory archives. The sketch was of a Skydiver model that had been produced several decades ago but had not been made public for a long time.

　The design drawing for this archive piece was accompanied only by the words "1973 / Special Limited Edition," and no further information was provided, shrouding it in mystery. A watchmaker who previously worked for Edox discovered that this watch was a military watch, secretly commissioned by a Swiss army colonel. The colonel had ordered a robust watch from Edox to be provided to his elite parachute troops.

　Edox has now added two new Skydiver Automatic Limited Edition models to its Skydiver collection, limited to 600 pieces worldwide. These models are a reproduction of a 1969 archive, faithfully recreating the case shape, dial with unique indices, large crown, and domed crystal, while also being updated using the latest technology and materials. A model with a green dial, indices, and strap is also available as a color variation.

　The dial adds to the vintage look. The semi-matt black dial has a clean, crisp appearance, and emphasis is placed on improving legibility. The different sized applied indexes and hour and minute hands are coated with beige and white Super-LumiNova, creating a retro feel while ensuring visibility in the dark. There is also a small, practical date display window at the 3 o'clock position. The white border enhances its presence and balances the design.

　The unidirectional rotating bezel with five-minute markings is made of highly scratch-resistant ceramic. The classic domed crystal is made of a thick sapphire crystal. This crystal, combined with a screw-down crown for enhanced airtightness and a robust case structure, achieves water resistance of 300 meters. The screw-down case back is engraved with the Edox logo and a motif inspired by paratroopers.

　The soft brown leather strap complements the watch body perfectly. The stitching, a unique touch, is made using a hand-stitching technique called couture serie, and it not only adds to the design but also reinforces the folded part on the back of the strap.

　The strap is also interchangeable with the Aviere spring bar, allowing users to swap it for the included black leather strap. A dedicated leather watch case is also included for easy portability.
