Casio Announces New Pro Trek Model Made with Biomass Plastic

Casio has announced four new models in its Pro Trek line of authentic outdoor watches, the first to feature biomass plastic. The cases, straps, and resin back covers are made from biomass plastic, which helps reduce CO2 emissions during manufacturing. One of the models is a collaboration with the Nature Conservation Society of Japan.

Eco-watch that is considerate of the global environment

　Casio has announced four new Pro Trek models that use biomass plastic for the watch exterior. This biomass plastic is made from renewable organic resources, including components extracted from castor beans and corn, and is attracting attention as a material that reduces environmental impact by reducing CO2 emissions.

　The three regular models available are the khaki-colored PRW-61Y-3, the all-black PRW-61Y-1B, and the PRW-61-1A with its striking silver bezel. The case, strap, and resin case back are made from biomass plastic.

　This is the first time Casio has used such organically derived materials, making it a fitting model for PRO TREK, a watch brand for nature lovers. The watch is highly practical for outdoor use, with features such as a triple sensor that measures direction, barometric pressure, altitude, and temperature, Multiband 6, which receives radio waves from six stations around the world, and Tough Solar, which reliably operates various functions using solar charging.

　In terms of design, the index hands have been made thicker to improve visibility on the dial, allowing information such as the time and direction to be checked instantly, and a target guide has been placed in the center of the strap to make it easier to see the direction indicated by the second hand.

　Also released this time is the PRW-51N, a collaboration model with the Nature Conservation Society of Japan. It shares the same basic specifications as the regular model mentioned above, but uses biomass plastic for the case, strap, and case back. Of particular note is the included strap, which is the first in the series to be made from recycled PET material made from sources such as PET bottles. The strap features a camouflage pattern inspired by Japan's Satoyama, a region that the Society values, and the creatures that live there.

　The case back features a design based on the Grey-faced Buzzard, an endangered bird. The dial is illuminated with a neon illuminator, and its green glow is reminiscent of fireflies flying in the dark. Like the regular model, it is equipped with a triple sensor, Multiband 6, Tough Solar, and other highly practical features.

　In addition, as part of its efforts to contribute to the SDGs and realize a sustainable society, Casio is promoting environmentally friendly initiatives, such as changing the packaging of its affordable standard watch series, the "CASIO Collection," from plastic to recycled paper. The company will continue to contribute to the realization of a circular economy by expanding the use of sustainable materials in other models.
