Louis Erard has announced a new model in the Excellence Collection, the Excellence Guilloché 2. The dial of this model features a diamond-motif guilloché decoration by Optical Art, creating an artistic piece. Only 99 pieces will be available worldwide, with deliveries scheduled to begin in March 2022.

A wearable piece of art, carved by a machine over 100 years ago
Louis Erard has announced the Excellence Guilloche 2, a watch with a guilloche pattern that covers the entire dial. As the model name suggests, this is the second edition of the Excellence Guilloche series, which was released in 2021. While the previous model featured a 3D checkered guilloche pattern, this new edition features a large diamond motif.

The Excellence Guilloché 2 features a distinctive diamond-motif design. It is based on the brand's Excellence Triptych. This is the third model in the Artistic Crafts Line series; the first featured a Donze Cadrans Grand Feu enamel dial, while the second featured a 3D checkered guilloché dial. Automatic movement (Cal. SW261-1). 31 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve: approximately 38 hours. Stainless steel case (42mm diameter). Water resistant to 5 bar. Limited to 99 pieces worldwide. Price: 638,000 yen (tax included).
The guilloched dial is engraved by a machine more than 100 years ago, and its geometric patterns are reminiscent of the optical art (hereafter referred to as Op Art) of French artist Victor Vasarely.

Op Art refers to paintings and sculptures that utilize optical illusions and principles of vision, and in this piece, the central diamond motif is designed to appear as if it is rising (or sinking) toward the center of the dial. While the previous model had a logo printed on the glass surface, this model has been stripped of even the logo, emphasizing the mysterious guilloche effect.

The movement is the Sellita Cal. SW261-1. It normally features a small second and date, but this model does not. The strap is made of grained calf leather and features a quick-change system that can be easily attached and detached by operating a lever built into the spring bar.

Only 99 units will be produced worldwide, but due to monthly production limits, deliveries are scheduled to begin sequentially from March 2022.
