[New for 2022] Citizen Announces Two New Models of the "Citizen Mechanical Diver 200m," an Update on the Challenge Diver

Citizen has added two new models to its Citizen Promaster line that inherit the design of the Challenge Diver, which was released in 1977. Based on the design of the Challenge Diver, which has a unique story even within the Citizen archives, these models feature a lightweight, scratch-resistant Super Titanium case, 200m water resistance in accordance with ISO standards, and updated performance with the Cal. 9051 movement, which is anti-magnetic.

A "modern spec" challenge diver with a unique story

　The newly added "Citizen Promaster Mechanical Diver 200m" is a diver's watch that complies with ISO standards and inherits the design of the Challenge Diver released in 1977.

　The model on which this work is based is said to have been discovered in 1983 on a long reef beach in Australia, where it had been left underwater for a long time and was covered in barnacles, but still in working order and not flooded. This anecdote not only demonstrates the watch's robustness, but also shows how it was loved as a tool watch for practical use on the seaside.

　This model successfully incorporates the design of the Challenge Diver from that time. In addition to the bezel, case, and hand shapes, these include the slightly vertically elongated and angular font on the bezel, the minute track around the dial's periphery, and the large rectangular indexes that avoid the minute track and are slightly closer to the center. The case is made of lightweight, scratch-resistant Super Titanium, and its diameter is the same as that of the original model, while its reduced thickness further enhances its wearability.

　The movement is Cal. 9051, which meets the second-class antimagnetic standard, meaning it can maintain its performance even when brought within 1cm of a device emitting a magnetic field of 16,000 A/m. This means it can be used not only in environments with devices like smartphones and computers, but also on board a ship equipped with a magnetic compass. Combined with its 200m water resistance, this makes it a tool watch that can be used in everyday life and for leisure activities.

　The lineup consists of two models: one with a black dial and rubber strap that closely resembles the original model, and the other with a popular blue dial and a Super Titanium bracelet.
