[New for 2022] H. Moser & Cie. "Pioneer Cylindrical Tourbillon Skeleton" with a cylindrical hairspring

The Pioneer Cylindrical Tourbillon Skeleton's movement represents a new approach that capitalizes on H. Moser & Cie.'s expertise in this field. Beneath a slightly domed sapphire crystal, the watch features equally curved subdials with Globolite® indexes, and a minute flying tourbillon with a cylindrical hairspring. While this is a striking and sculptural piece, its balanced proportions and water resistance to 12 bar make it suitable for everyday wear.

The cylindrical hairspring itself was invented in the 18th century and runs vertically along the top of the balance shaft. It was often used in marine chronometers at the time, and its advantage is that it expands and contracts concentrically. This cylindrical hairspring features two Breguet curves, which reduce friction on the shaft and improve isochronism. This effect is further enhanced when combined with a tourbillon. However, cylindrical hairsprings are particularly difficult to manufacture today, as they require highly specialized know-how and tools. It takes 10 times longer to handcraft one cylindrical hairspring than a traditional hairspring.

H. Moser & Cie. "Pioneer Cylindrical Tourbillon Skeleton"
Automatic winding (Cal. HMC 811). 28 jewels. 21,600 vph. Power reserve approximately 74 hours. Stainless steel (diameter 42.8 mm, thickness 15.3 mm). Water resistant to 12 bar. Hand-stitched black alligator strap. Estimated price: 11,275,000 yen (tax included). Scheduled for release within the year.

The small, domed subdial at 12 o'clock is curved like the sapphire crystal and is crafted in Funky Blue Fumé, the signature color of H. Moser & Cie. The white H. Moser & Cie. logo adds a touch of subtle charm, while the hour markers are quite bold. Crafted from Globolight®, a ceramic-based material mixed with Super-LumiNova®, the hour markers, along with Globolight® inserts on the tops of the hour and minute hands, accentuate the three-dimensional feel of the model.

The new HMC 811 calibre, fitted in this double-sided skeleton model, is powered by a large, completely open-worked gold rotor. The beauty of the movement is further enhanced by the lightness of the flying tourbillon, which turns gracefully beneath the sapphire crystal. The Pioneer Cylindrical Tourbillon Skeleton marks an important step for H. Moser & Cie. as it enters the skeleton watch segment, setting a new standard for its production.
