At Watches & Wonders 2022, Vacheron Constantin unveiled a new variation of its Overseas Extra-Thin Perpetual Calendar Skeleton. This is the first model to combine an 18KPG case with a blue dial. By changing the strap, you can enjoy different styles.

Pink gold with blue dial
The Overseas Extra-Thin Perpetual Calendar Skeleton was awarded the Calendar & Astronomical Watch Award at the 2020 Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève in recognition of its advanced technology and innovative features.

The newly released model is a skeletonized version crafted in 18K pink gold with a blue dial. To account for the characteristics of the Gregorian calendar, perpetual calendars typically require a mechanical memory with a 1461-day cycle. This cam-shaped memory precisely programs the length of each month of the year.

This mechanism displays the calendar correctly without any adjustments for 28, 30, or 31 days, or even leap years. It is designed so that adjustments will not be necessary until the year 2100. This is because years that are divisible by 4 but not by 400 are considered common years, not leap years, and therefore adjustments are necessary. In this model, the day and date displays are arranged symmetrically, while the four-year month display and the moon phase display at 6 o'clock, covered by translucent glass, are arranged symmetrically.

The movement chosen to run this complicated mechanism precisely is the in-house automatic movement, Caliber 1120. With a base thickness of just 2.45mm, it is already known as a classic ultra-thin movement in the field of mechanical watches.
Even with the perpetual calendar installed, the watch is only 4.05mm thick, and the case itself is 8.1mm thick. The entire watch is skeletonized, making the mechanical movement openwork. All of the components of the Caliber 1120 QPSQ/1 are hollowed out, finished, and decorated. Even the parts that cannot be seen from the outside have been given careful technical and aesthetic attention, which is in line with Vacheron Constantin's theme for 2022, "The Anatomy of Beauty."

Automatic movement (Cal. 1120 QPSQ/1). 36 jewels. 19,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 40 hours. 18KPG case (diameter 41.5mm, thickness 8.1mm). Water resistant to 5 bar. Exclusively available in boutiques.
All components are hand-finished with a striking presence, including satin-brushed, beveled, and, depending on their position in the center of the movement, circular brushed, sunburst, and circular graining. On the dial side, a thin blue calendar display ring and a matching flange ensure perfect legibility while allowing a clear view of the movement.

This model also features an interchangeable system: in addition to the 18K pink gold bracelet, it comes with an interchangeable calfskin and rubber strap, both of which are fitted with an 18K pink gold pin buckle. This allows you to enjoy three different styles with one watch, making it suitable for any occasion.
