Breguet "Queen of Naples 9835" and "Queen of Naples 9838" feature a heart-shaped minute hand that transforms on the dial.

Breguet has announced two new models, the Queen of Naples 9835 and the Queen of Naples 9838, in which the minute hand changes shape as it moves across the dial. The Queen of Naples 9835 will be sold in a limited edition of 20 pieces worldwide.

　Breguet's signature ladies' watch, the Reine of Naples collection, was inspired by a watch delivered to Napoleon's sister, Caroline Murat, Queen of Naples, in 1812.

　The collection features a slender, egg-shaped case. Each model in this contemporary collection features diamond settings, hand-engravings, and even lacquer finishes, making it a tribute to femininity.

　This unprecedented mechanism, covered by multiple patents, is an exclusive Breguet creation: the variable-length minute hand is formed by two arms linked at their ends but operating independently, which are transformed by an ingenious gear train.

　The minute hand thus takes on various shapes on the dial, extending at 12 o'clock and becoming more rounded at 6 o'clock. The mechanism responsible for this optical illusion features an egg-shaped cam that recalls the unique curvaceous shape of the Reine of Naples. Each arm moves at a different speed as the minutes tick by.

　In this way, the shape of the hands constantly changes with the movement, moving to fit perfectly into the egg-shaped form.

Two timepieces, one movement

　Inside the 36.5 x 28.45 mm egg-shaped case, 25 components power the automatic movement 78A0. This movement features a silicon balance spring and an in-line Swiss lever escapement. Silicon offers a variety of properties, including corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and the ability to eliminate the influence of magnetic fields, improving the watch's precision.

　The gear train of this complication, like all of the caliber's components, is meticulously handcrafted in accordance with Breguet tradition, even down to the parts not visible. The sapphire crystal caseback reveals the platinum oscillating weight, its Côtes de Genève decoration, and the beveled movement. The white gold case is engraved with the serial number, which has been recorded in the Maison Breguet archives since the end of the 18th century.
