Grand Seiko has announced a new addition to its Sports Collection, featuring a chronograph GMT movement. The watch expresses the majesty of the lion, the brand's symbol, and features a embossed dial reminiscent of the lion's mane. It is scheduled for release on March 10, 2023.

The majesty of the lion is expressed through the signature stamped dial
Since its launch in 1960, Grand Seiko has used the lion, known as the king of beasts, as its brand symbol. The lion, which has come to symbolize the king, embodies the brand's determination to create the finest watches.
Grand Seiko's unique Sports Collection, which sublimates this spirit into design while also achieving high practicality, has introduced its first regular model, the Sports Collection Spring Drive Chronograph GMT SBGC253, which embodies the image of a lion with a sturdy exterior.

Automatic Spring Drive (Cal. 9R86). 50 jewels. Power reserve: approximately 72 hours. Bright titanium case (44.5mm diameter, 16.8mm thick). Water resistant to 20 bar. Price: 1,639,000 yen (tax included). Scheduled for release on Friday, March 10, 2023.
As per the concept, the exterior of this watch is robust, exuding a sense of dignity and ferocity. The case, which boasts water resistance of 20 ATM, is characterized by bold lugs that resemble the edges of a block of metal that have been cut off. These were inspired by the large, protruding claws of a lion, and the distortion-free flatness achieved by Zaratsu polishing and the hairline finish accentuate the robust silhouette.

The design not only emphasizes aesthetics, but also lowers the case's center of gravity to ensure a stable fit. The case and bracelet are made of Grand Seiko's proprietary bright titanium, which is approximately 30% lighter than stainless steel, achieving a powerful appearance while also being comfortable to wear.
The dial, the most distinctive feature of this model, features a specially embossed pattern to represent a lion's mane. The shiny white color of the dial evokes the lion's noble presence and beauty. The tip of the chronograph counter hand is accented with red, and the three-dimensional, wide indexes and prominent hour hand ensure excellent visibility in all conditions.

The watch is equipped with Grand Seiko's proprietary Spring Drive movement, Caliber 9R86. This highly accurate movement has an average monthly deviation of ±15 seconds (equivalent to a daily deviation of ±1 second) and a power reserve of approximately 72 hours. It also features a 12-hour counter and a GMT function.
