Smartphones and tablet devices, which are indispensable in modern society, emit magnetic fields. To minimize the effects of this, the Citizen Series Eight movement has been strengthened to achieve Type 2 magnetic resistance. Two new models, the 880 Mechanical with GMT function, have been announced as part of the series. The watches are scheduled for release in the fall of 2023.

Pursuing magnetic resistance and comfortable fit
The Citizen Series Eight offers a modern and active design that suits any occasion, whether on or off the job, and is equipped with magnetic resistance and a comfortable fit to suit modern lifestyles. The new Series Eight model, the 880 Mechanical, is equipped with a GMT function.

The design of the dial is inspired by the night view of Tokyo, and combines the image of square windows of different sizes across a group of buildings with the checkered pattern, a popular Japanese design symbolizing prosperity, to create a new, modern pattern.

The center case has a two-piece structure, with each side featuring a mirror and multiple hairline patterns, highlighting the three-dimensional look created by sharp straight lines. The bracelet tapers sharply from the case, creating a clean, modern form.

The Series Eight is equipped with "Type 2 magnetic resistance," which enhances the movement's magnetic resistance to prevent the magnetic force emitted by smartphones and tablets, which are indispensable in our digital society, from affecting timekeeping accuracy.

This Class 2 antimagnetic watch meets the JIS guaranteed standard of 16,000 A/m specified in the Japanese Industrial Standard "JISB7024 Magnetically Resistant Portable Watches," and has reached a level where it can maintain its performance in most cases even when brought up to 1 cm from a device that generates a magnetic field.
