Swatch makes the "what if" question from 40 years ago come true: the new "BIOCERAMIC WHAT IF?"

Swatch has announced a new collection of square watches using its proprietary bioceramic. Based on the concept of "What if" (if) the 1982 model had been designed in a square shape instead of a round one, the collection, "BIOCERAMIC WHAT IF?", is available in four different colors and designs.

　In 1982, the founders of Swatch created many prototypes for a groundbreaking new model, but were forced to decide between a round or square shape. As we all know, the round shape won out, and the brand's 40-year history has become a success story. The question "What if they had chosen a square watch?" was posed at the time, and a collection was released that marked the first step on that path.

　In developing this collection, Swatch revisited prototypes of square watches from 1982 onwards, aiming to create a new watch with a provocative and rebellious spirit. A major contribution to achieving this goal was the use of bioceramic, a proprietary material also used in the Moon Swatch. Made from ceramic powder and bio-derived materials, bioceramic is characterized by its incredible strength and durability.

　This innovative material has overcome the challenges of creating a square shape, such as its strength, and has resulted in the extremely edgy square shape that was the concept. Furthermore, the use of edge-to-edge glass, a bio-based material, on the integrated strap gives the watch a very modern personality.

　The built-in quartz movement features a day of the week and date display, and the hands are coated with luminous material. With its minimalist 33 x 33 mm size and easy handling, this square-shaped model is perfect for everyday use.
