A high-level neoclassic reborn with modern technology

　Along with Grand Seiko, King Seiko has been Seiko's premium line. This collection, which was introduced in 1961, had a distinctly different character from Grand Seiko. Take the movement, for example. While Grand Seiko featured dedicated movements in pursuit of high precision, many King Seiko watches utilized existing movements and tuned them up. The same goes for case design. While Grand Seiko introduced increasingly cutting-edge designs every year, King Seiko often aimed for smaller, thinner designs. While Grand Seiko always strived for the best, it could be said that King Seiko was a collection aimed at a wider demographic.

　The King Seiko once disappeared with the release of the King Quartz, but was revived in 2021 as a limited edition model. Just like back then, the watch is equipped with the versatile Seiko brand automatic movement to achieve a compact, thin design. The design chosen was also the "KSK" design, which was said to be the most King Seiko-like. In other words, the new King Seiko, like previous models, is a watch aimed at a wide range of people. Seiko describes its aim as follows: "King Seiko is a mechanical watch brand that pursues high levels of performance, design, and elegance."

　The movement is a testament to this performance. Previous KSK models were equipped with hand-wound movements, but all new models have been replaced with automatic movements. Furthermore, the limited edition model with a date display uses the 6L35, which is as thin as a hand-wound movement, while the regular model without a date display is equipped with the 6R31, which is a little thicker but has a long running time of approximately 70 hours. Both have high mainspring winding efficiency and can be wound easily even during desk work.

　The design has also evolved. The basic shape is the same as the KSK, but there have been subtle updates. For example, the crystal that covers the dial. Previously, it was made of acrylic glass, but the latest model is made of hard, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. While three-dimensional processing is costly, Seiko has deliberately adopted it for the sake of the design. However, simply raising the crystal makes it difficult to read the time when viewed from an angle. In response, Seiko has improved visibility by sharpening the corners of the crystal.

　What also gives the King Seiko a sense of elegance is the high-quality exterior inherited from the Grand Seiko. For example, the three-dimensional Dauphine hands. Although not as flat as the Grand Seiko, the thick, long hands are a sign that this is a high-end Seiko watch. In addition, the rounded corners of the indexes and case give the new King Seiko a look that exceeds its price.

　However, what makes the new King Seiko unique is that it is not just high-quality. Among watch manufacturers around the world, no other manufacturer is currently as innovative in its dial designs as Seiko. As befits the company's watches, the King Seiko comes with a variety of dial colors.

　The King Seiko has another beautiful feature: its small size. The model without a date display is 37 mm in diameter, while the limited edition model with a date display is 38.1 mm in diameter, making them just the right size for Japanese wrists. The watch is also as light as a business watch from a generation ago.

　The new King Seiko pursues high levels of performance, design, and elegance. This is by no means a classic reissue. It is a "just right" mid-range watch that is needed now more than ever.
